Hate Not Heritage: ACTBAC added to SPLC Hate Map...

ACTBAC NC has been added to the growing list of hate groups in the United States by the Southern Poverty Law Center, who update their Hate Map yearly. The Times-News reports

"An Alamance County Southern rights organization is being accused of being a “hate group.”
The Southern Poverty Law Center this week put ACTBAC NC on its online “hate map” after its annual review of activity meeting its criteria.
ACTBAC, which formed in Alamance County surrounding an effort in summer 2015 to ensure that the Confederate Monument in Graham would not be removed, is classified on the Montgomery-based nonprofit's map as a “neo-Confederate” group.
“To me, it’s basically blasphemy,” ACTBAC founder Gary Williamson said. “There’s no reason whatsoever we should even be on there. We have no reason to be on there. There is nothing we’ve ever done that expresses racism or hate.”"

The report goes on to add:

"Megan Squire, a Gibsonville resident who has publicly opposed ACTBAC and has tracked its activity on Facebook and other websites, said the SPLC reached out to her for additional details as it was compiling information about the group.
“They were already tuned into ACTBAC,” Squire said. “A lot of the stuff I told them they already knew.”"

While I am glad that ACTBAC has been noticed by extremist watchdogs, I am surprised that they have not taken notice of the group who created the mold by which all others are being crafted, the Virginia Flaggers, who rightly deserve their own spot on the hate group wall of fame. It looks like I'm not alone. At least one Virginia Flagger appears to be jealous.

Don't worry Greyhair Jennings, I'm sure y'all will get your chance soon.

Restoring the honor!

  1. Thanks for your blog, by the way. It has helped a lot with figuring out some of the details of how ACTBAC got its start.

    1. Hey no problem. Hathaway is the Queen Bee of the Confederate Heritage movement. Her schedule is chock full of speaking engagements. I haven't been to one of these yet, and I can't find any video of one online, but I am quite sure that she spends the entire time telling people how she and her group go about harassing communities. That's exactly what they do, harass communities. ACTBAC is just a cookie cutter copy of their circus act. Williamson claims ACTBAC is a non-profit, but the last time I checked, there was no trace of his group being registered as a non-profit in the states database of non-profits. I would love to know if they are or aren't because if they aren't, he flat out lied about it. Where might I find your coverage of ACTBAC?
