The Lost Cause: Another loss for Heritage in Baltimore...

Baltimore's Special Commission to Review Public Confederate Monuments has released their final report today with recommendations on what to do with the city's four Confederate Monuments. Bobby Lee and Roger Taney have got to go, the other two are to be "contextualized".

From the reports conclusion:

"Today, careful stewardship of our historic and cultural resources is essential to a vibrant, dynamic Baltimore. Monuments are part of the City of Baltimore’s history and culture and help define our diverse neighborhoods. Each generation adds to, redefines and shapes the communities in which we live. This process has invariably shaped and reshapes our understanding of the past and creates our current vision of Baltimore. This report is a culmination of that process and a product of this generation’s vision of a just and equitable Baltimore.
One hundred years ago, the City of Baltimore was one of many jurisdictions that adopted laws and policies that re-established white supremacy and racial segregation. This racist vision was implemented in innumerable ways, such as Baltimore’s segregation ordinances, deed covenants, and Jim Crow policies that led to deep inequity in school budgets, infrastructure improvements, transportation, and access to public spaces and amenities. The monuments studied by this Commission were yet another tool used to glorify white supremacy and that vision is indefensible today. This report provides recommendations on how to address these monuments that are beautiful works of art, historical artifacts, but also propaganda. "

Sorry racists, but the rest of America is moving on without you. We don't need you here, so why don't you start looking for a new piece of land to steal? You can read read the entire report here.

  1. Yes, we discussed this before, but I didn't name the Commission.

  2. Won't you have to change the name of your city? Lord Baltimore was involved with the slave trade.

I see the nickname of your city is "Bodymore, Murderland." Would that be an accurate description? I suggest your "historical" commission consider it at their next meeting.

    1. Hey, I found some others. Gang names of the 1800s- Blood Tubs, Rip Raps, Rough Skins, Black Snakes, Double-Pumps, American Rattlers, Butt Enders.

"Double-Pump, Maryland" has a nice ring to it...

  3. Considering what I have seen and heard of Baltimore in recent months/years...I sort of like the idea of the Confederate monuments being placed elsewhere.

    1. Three hundred miles due east of Baltimore would be a great location to put them.

    2. First, move Baltimore to Missouri...

    3. Then extend the new location 2500 miles to the east from St. Louis and drop them off.

    1. So you aren't happy that they are moving the traitor to a battlefield? Is that was ISIS is doing? I don't think so. Just more proof of how ignorant you are.

    2. Yes. They can't blast it to smithereens like ISIS does -- but if they could, they would.

  5. If Virginia Flaggers can show up at Stone Mountain, they can make it to Baltimore to protest this decision. It will be an interesting measure of their commitment.

BTW, I like the Lee-Jackson statue ... not a fan of the rest of the monument.

    2. "In the meantime, we will be sending City Council our own communication, warning them that they may want to keep in mind how quickly the landscape changed in Danville when City Council there voted to remove one tiny 3x5 Third National Flag."

Great. "Keep the skeer on 'em."

    4. Looks like it's Alexandria who's keeping the skeer on. Try to keep up.

    5. I hear that Alexandria called Susie's bluff. What remains to be seen is how close Susan is willing to come to DC after exclaiming that it would be a cold day in hell before she ever returned there. She will literally be a spit away from DC if she decides to raise a hate flag in Alexandria. I can't imagine that there WON'T be a welcoming committee there to greet her.

  6. More Black Confederates...sort of...

Baltimore Riots, 1861. One of the more prominent groups in opposition to federal troops were...Free Blacks.
